Pit Barrel Cooker PBX 22.5
Pit Barrel's largest drum and the one the catalog is missing at the top end: a 22.5-inch porcelain-coated barrel with three hanging rods and sixteen hooks against the Classic's two rods and eight. Pit Barrel rates it at 16 to 20 racks of ribs, four pork butts, four full packer briskets or four turkeys in a single load, which is catering and competition capacity rather than backyard capacity. The trade-off is the one Pit Barrel prints on the page themselves: with a light load there is less meat absorbing heat, so the barrel runs hotter than the 18.5.
Goes to the manufacturer. We earn nothing on this one.
Specifications
Pros
- ✓Four full packer briskets or four turkeys in one load is more capacity than any vertical water smoker near this price
- ✓Three hanging rods instead of two means you can run ribs and butts on separate levels without crowding
- ✓All hanging hooks, rods and racks interchange with the 18.5-inch Classic, so an upgrade does not orphan your accessories
- ✓Same no-damper simplicity as the rest of the line — light the basket, set the intake, close the lid
- ✓Porcelain over steel rather than paint, so it will not burn off around the intake the way painted drums do
Cons
- ✗Runs noticeably hot when lightly loaded, which Pit Barrel warns about on the product page — this is not a cooker for a single rack of ribs
- ✗Ash pan, hinged grate and cover from the 18.5 do NOT fit, so three of the common accessories have to be rebought
- ✗84.5 lbs and 30 inches wide: it needs a dedicated spot, and the caster kit is the only way to move it
- ✗$600 puts it against a 22-inch Weber Smokey Mountain at $549 that does hold low temperatures

Pit Barrel Cooker Junior Premier 14
The 14-inch sibling of the Classic already in the catalog, rebuilt in 2026 as the Premier series. It is the same sealed drum design — charcoal basket in the base, meat hung from rods on hooks rather than laid on a grate — shrunk to a 14-inch barrel that Pit Barrel rates at four to eight people or up to six racks of ribs hung vertically. The Premier revision adds an elevated lid handle, a detachable single-tier heat shield so it can sit on a deck, and an attachable ash pan; it ships with the hook tool as standard, which used to be an upsell.

Pit Barrel Cooker Badger Barrel 16.5
The odd one out in Pit Barrel's line and the only model in it with real dampers: a 16.5-inch porcelain drum with adjustable vents on both the lid and the base, which the Classic and Junior deliberately do not have. The mid-section lifts out so the base becomes a shallow hibachi for hot-and-fast grilling, and the hanging rack stays for smoking — Pit Barrel rates it at six racks of ribs. Priced at $275 against the $360 Junior, it is the cheapest way into the line and the only one you can actually dial down.
Oklahoma Joe's
Oklahoma Joe's Bronco Pro
The Oklahoma Joe's Bronco Pro is a heavy-duty 21.5-inch charcoal drum smoker with a sealed intake-pipe airflow system that gives drum-style cooking unusually precise temperature control, plus meat hangers and hooks for classic hang-style smoking.
The largest Weber bullet: a 22.5-inch-diameter water smoker with 726 sq in across two racks, versus 481 on the 18-inch. The extra diameter matters more than the number suggests, because a full packer brisket lies flat on the 22 and has to be bent or trimmed on the 18. The bigger charcoal ring also holds enough fuel for a genuine overnight burn, which is the reason competition teams standardised on this size.
Oklahoma Joe's
Oklahoma Joe's Bronco Drum Smoker & Grill
The 2025 revision of the Bronco and the model below the Bronco Pro already in the catalog. It keeps the two things that made the original Bronco worth buying - a side fuel door that lets you add charcoal without lifting the grate or the food, and an 8 lb charcoal basket rated for 14-plus hours - and adds dual side shelves, rubber-tread wheels and the rib hanger kit as standard. The grate lowers toward the fire for grilling, which is where the '& Grill' in the name comes from. 284 sq in of grate plus nine hooks on three hangers.
The Weber Smokey Mountain is the legendary bullet-shaped charcoal water smoker that has been the 'first real smoker' recommendation for decades. Two stacked grates and a water pan turn out competition-quality BBQ for under $500.
