Big Green Egg sells the same thick-walled ceramic kamado in seven sizes, from a 79-square-inch Mini to a 672-square-inch 2XL, and nothing about the cooker changes except scale. That makes size the entire buying decision — and because an Egg realistically lasts decades and prices are dealer-set with the nest, mates and every accessory sold separately, picking wrong is expensive to undo.

Kamado Joe's ladder is simpler than Big Green Egg's: the portable 13.5-inch Joe Jr., the 18-inch Classic that most people buy, and the 24-inch Big Joe. Unlike BGE, the Classic and Big Joe ship complete — cart, locking wheels, folding side shelves, heat deflectors, and the multi-level Divide & Conquer rack system are all in the box — so sticker prices are higher but closer to the true out-the-door cost.

The Weber kettle is the same porcelain-enameled charcoal grill it's been since 1952, sold today in five diameters from the 14-inch Smokey Joe to the 37-inch Ranch, with trim levels (Original vs Premium vs Master-Touch) layered on top. Size determines whether you can run a real two-zone fire, and trim determines how annoying ash cleanup is — the two questions are worth separating before you pay.

The Weber Smokey Mountain is the bullet smoker that half of r/smoking learned brisket on, sold in 14-, 18-, and 22-inch diameters — each a porcelain-enameled charcoal smoker with two stacked grates and a water pan. All three run identically; the size question is purely about how much meat you hang over the fire and how much charcoal you're willing to burn to do it.

Blackstone sells the same cold-rolled-steel flat top in four mainstream footprints: 17- and 22-inch tabletops and 28- and 36-inch cart griddles, all now in the hood-equipped Original series with Omnivore griddle plates. Griddle space disappears faster than grill space — smash burgers need empty steel to work against — so the size call matters more here than the spec sheet suggests.

Traeger's 2026 lineup is four lines — Westwood (entry), Woodridge (mainstream), Ironwood (enthusiast), and Timberline (flagship) — each in two or three sizes, after the Pro 575/780 and Ironwood 885 that defined the brand for years were discontinued in early 2025. That makes the ladder confusing: total square inches and price no longer move together, because the upper lines charge for insulation, controllers, and included accessories rather than space.

Weber's gas ladder runs from the two-burner Spirit E-210 to the four-burner Genesis E-435, and the 2024-2025 refreshes quietly changed the math: the current Spirit E-210 and E-310 now share one identical 450-square-inch cookbox (the 310 just adds a middle burner), while Genesis buys you a physically bigger, heavier-gauge grill with sear zones and Weber Crafted compatibility.
