Royal Gourmet GD401 4-Burner Portable Grill & Griddle Combo

The GD401 splits the difference between a griddle and a grill: half the 606 sq in surface is a flat top, half is a grill grate, over four independently controlled burners totaling 48,000 BTU. The legs fold, so unlike most four-burner flat-tops it packs into a car. Royal Gourmet lists it at $428.99 on its own store, but it sells for roughly $260-300 at Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot and Tractor Supply, which is the real street price.

Pros

  • ✓Griddle and grill grate side by side means bacon and burgers cook at once without swapping surfaces
  • ✓48,000 BTU across four independent burners is more heat than most portables at twice the price
  • ✓Folding legs make a 606 sq in cooking surface genuinely transportable
  • ✓Street price of roughly $270 is well under the brand's own list price, so it is easy to buy well
  • ✓Two side tables included for prep space

Cons

  • ✗Royal Gourmet's own store price of $428.99 is far above street, which makes the brand's pricing hard to trust
  • ✗Plain steel construction with a reputation for rust if stored uncovered
  • ✗No hood on the base model, so wind steals heat and there is no roasting
  • ✗No published warranty terms, and support is thin compared with Blackstone or Weber
  • ✗Splitting the surface means neither the griddle nor the grill section is full size

Gas Grill

Four stainless tubular main burners making 40,000 BTU, a dedicated 14,000 BTU sear burner under a 153 sq in panel of diamond-pattern cast iron, and a 10,000 BTU lidded side burner — 64,000 BTU total over 737.71 sq in. The rotisserie kit and motor are in the box. This is the stainless version; the GA5404H is the same grill in black. Royal Gourmet publishes only a total cooking area, not a primary figure.

Halo Getaway Griddle
~$280
Griddle

Halo's travel griddle: 289 sq in of pre-seasoned cooktop with two independently controlled zones, and a high-temperature silicone lid that folds flat instead of adding a rigid hood to the packing list. It runs on 1 lb canisters out of the box and on a 20 lb tank with Halo's conversion kit. The grease cup locks, which is the detail that separates a griddle that travels from one that merely can be carried.

Best for: Campers and RV owners who want two-zone control in something that packs flat, and who have been burned by a grease cup emptying itself in a car

Camp Chef Gridiron Gameday

Griddle

Camp Chef's tailgating griddle: 425 sq in and 24,000 BTU across two burners, with a hinged lid that locks down for transport. The pitch is that it is a real cooking system rather than a tabletop toy — enough surface to feed a group, with a grease system designed around a parking lot rather than a patio. It takes Camp Chef's 16-inch two-burner accessories.

Nexgrill

Griddle

The Daytona is Nexgrill's direct answer to the 36-inch Blackstone, and it undercuts it while adding a stainless lid as standard rather than as an upcharge. 792 sq in of hot-rolled steel over four stainless burners gives 38,000 BTU, with two side shelves and a lower rack on the cart. Nexgrill sells almost entirely through Home Depot, which is where the street price lives.
